I started taking photographs about twenty years ago. During this time I've taken a few classes but I'm largely self-taught. I've always used the camera as a means of self-expression, and as way to communicate, but at the same time I've used it to make a living. My work has been widely published and I've won a few awards.
If you want to know about some of my other creative pursuits there's more in the box on the homepage.
About the images:
Many of the images you see on the site were taken before the rise of digital photography. They were created using traditional techniques such as in-camera effects, painting with light, darkroom effects and collage. Currently I'm working almost one hundred percent in the digital medium but I still utilise many of my 'old-school' techniques.
The control available in the digital environment is incredible, you can create most anything you can imagine but the real heart of photography for me still contains something of the unknown and an element of surprise. The surprise of being in the right place at the right time and capturing that moment, the discovery of images you had never imagined through playing with light and the surprises of the ever-changing natural world.
These things inspire my creativity.
